McEwen beats Stoughton to win Cdn Open

KINGSTON, Ont. — Mike McEwen triumphed in an all-Winnipeg BDO Canadian Open final on Sunday.

McEwen’s rink beat Jeff Stoughton’s team 5-2 in seven ends to win the $100,000 championship.

McEwen’s rink scored two points in the second end and never gave up that lead, adding a point in the fourth, sixth and seventh ends.

Stoughton’s team only managed to score in the third and fifth ends.

The Canadian Open is the second leg of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling.

McEwen had defeated Sweden’s Niklas Edin 8-2 in the semifinals on Saturday to make the final. Stoughton had an 8-6 victory over Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont., to play for the championship.
