Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque is scheduled to have a meeting with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Monday afternoon to discuss his hit on Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook that occurred Sunday.
At 15:25 of the first period in Calgary’s 4-2 loss to the Blackhawks, Bourque hit Seabrook from behind in the Chicago zone. Seabrook’s head slammed into the glass and the defenceman fell to the ice. He appeared to be unconscious for several seconds before slowly getting to his feet and skating to the Chicago bench on his own.
Seabrook, who did not return to the game, has a history of being the victim of headshots. During the playoffs last season Seabrook was hit in the head by Vancouver Canucks forward Raffi Torres. In March, Seabrook was knocked out by Anaheim’s James Wisniewski.
Bourque has never been suspended in the NHL and is not known around the league as a dirty player.
