CAMROSE, Alta. — Forward Jason Zucker was named captain of the American world junior hockey team Friday.

This will be the Las Vegas native’s third world junior tournament. He won gold in 2010 and bronze last year.

The 19-year-old Zucker has 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 18 games this season at the University of Denver. He was taken in the second round, 59th overall, of the 2010 NHL entry draft by the Minnesota Wild.

Centre Emerson Etem of the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers and defenceman Jarred Tinordi of the OHL’s London Knights will serve as alternates.

Etem also earned bronze with Americans last year while Tinordi will make his first national team appearance.

The world junior tournament begins Dec. 26 and runs through Jan. 5 in Calgary and Edmonton.
