For Families: How about ringing in the New Year alongside some four-legged friends? The Toronto Zoo is hosting its ninth annual New Year’s Eve Family Countdown. The clock starts ticking at 8 p.m. Dec. 31. 5 p.m. $20/adult, $12/children. torontozoo.com
For Visitors: Take part in Canada’s biggest party at Citytv’s Annual New Year’s Bash at Nathan Phillips Square. Ring in the 2012 with thousands of your friends, and performances from Karl Wolf and Backstreet Boy Howie D, among others. For Singles: Yuk it up this NYE at the New Year’s Eve Comedy Extravaganza. The Massey Hall event is hosted by Canadian comedy icon Andrea Martin, and features some of the country’s best talent. Dec. 31. 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $39.50. masseyhall.com
For Charity: Shake off that New Year’s hangover and raise money for Habitat for Humanity by taking part in the 2012 Toronto Polar Bear Dip at Sunnyside Beach. Jan. 1. Arrive at 11:15 a.m. for registration, the dip runs at noon. Participants must raise $20. torontopolarbear.com
For Kicks: How about a non-New Year’s Eve alternative? Check out some amazing Russian artifacts at The Tsar’s Cabinet. The exhibit features a selection of imperial Russian porcelain from the Romanov royal family, on display at the Gardiner Museum.
