Rangers place Avery on waivers for second time

The New York Rangers have placed Sean Avery on waivers for the second time this season.

If the veteran forward goes unclaimed by the other 29 NHL teams, he can be sent to the American Hockey League’s Connecticut Whale on Saturday.

Avery started the season in the AHL after failing to crack the Rangers roster out of training camp.

He was recalled by the NHL team on Nov. 1 and scored three goals in 15 games for the Rangers.

Avery had been a healthy scratch for the last nine games.
