Big party planned at Nathan Phillips Square for NYE

TORONTO, Ont. – One of the biggest parties in the city on New Year’s Eve night will be the City TV New Year’s Eve Bash at Nathan Phillips Square, celebrating its 27th year.
City TV news anchor Gord Martineau is hosting for the 23rd time, and he tells 680News there’s a reason why this party is always so big.
“I think it was established at a time when a lot of people weren’t doing a heck of a lot in terms of entertainment on New Year’s Eve,” Martineau said. “We decided to be on the leading edge of that, and ever since then it’s been the party of the year in Canada, it’s the biggest New Year’s party in the country.”
Performances will include Neverest, Howie D from the Backstreet Boys, Karl Wolf, JRDN, Angelie and the cast of American Idiot.
680News music reporter Rudy Blair spoke with Canadian recording artist Karl Wolf about his upcoming performance.
“I’m so excited man, I have the whole team here, we’re the ones bringing in the New Year,” Wolf said. “I did this two years ago, it was amazing and this time it’s going to be even more people, like 40,000 people out here and something like 5-million viewers.”
The pre-show begins at 9 p.m. with the broadcast starting at 10 p.m.
The show will also pick up a simulcast from Calgary shortly after midnight featuring a performance by Down With Webster.
The final countdown will be simulcast from the party on 680News.
