Toronto ends extreme cold weather alert

The extreme cold weather alert issued Monday is now over.
The city announced the alert to get homeless people into shelters and safe from the frigid temperatures, which hovered around -15 C Monday and Tuesday without the windchill.
Tuesday’s high is -1 C, and temperatures will climb to 6 C by Friday.
“It’s the direction of the winds that really determine the type of air we get in and whether it’s going to be arctic air or that warm-up,” said CityNews weather specialist Frank Ferragine.
“An approaching warm front will bring with it warmer temperatures, much milder temperatures by the time we get to Friday … Today we’re on a slow climb.”
There were 10 extreme cold weather alerts in Toronto in 2010.
