Two men killed in devastating crash in Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA – The family of a 24-year-old man is grieving after learning their loved one was one of two men killed in a single vehicle collision.

CityNews identified him as 24 year old as Babar Akram.

24 year old Akram and a 21-year-old Mississauga man were killed after their car flipped over on Erin Centre Boulevard at Placid Place, not far from the 10th line.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. Friday on what is a subdivision-style street lined with homes.

Both Akram and his 21-year-old friend were pronounced dead at the scene. Peel police Constable George Tudos told 680News they still need to piece the incident together.

“We are still looking for more witnesses or anyone that may have seen this vehicle prior to where it was located just to determine exactly what happened.”

“That is still under investigation and there is a postmortem scheduled sometime today or tomorrow,” said Constable Tudos.

Although the cause of the accident is not known yet, Tudos told 680News speeding could be a factor.

“It is a large street, wide as well. If there are any citizens that live in that community that have complaints about speeding, they need to come forward so that we can place strategic officers that are specialized in traffic,” said Tudos.

Tudos said the 21-year-old was driving the car. The man has not been identified as of yet.

CityNews cameraman Daniel Berry was on the scene not long after the crash.

“Several residents that I spoke to in the neighbourhood tell me that the street is notorious for speed and people speeding up and down it, and street racing is a common occurrence in the neighbourhood,” Berry said.

No cause of the crash has been given from police and the names of the men have not been released.
