Rogers Media announced Tuesday that it will acquire 100 per cent of Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN), setting the stage for the launch of Citytv Saskatchewan.
The station will be based in Regina, with support from Citytv and Rogers Media locations across the country, Rogers said in a statement.
A price tag for SCN was not disclosed.
The company added that Citytv Saskatchewan would continue to air commercial-free educational content from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and would later air local, original and acquired Citytv programming, such as CityLine, Modern Family, The Neighbors Dog, 15 Minutes of Fame, 2 Broke Girls, and the upcoming Canada’s Got Talent.
Rogers also plans to introduce an HD signal in the province, the company said.
“Acquiring SCN was motivated by our desire to expand our national reach for Citytv content, allowing us to more effectively compete with other national broadcasters,” Scott Moore, Rogers Media’s president of broadcasting, said in a statement.
“Rogers Media will provide ownership stability and financial resources needed to maintain and grow this service for Saskatchewan residents.”
The deal is subject to regulatory approval, with a final decision expected in the spring.
