HALIFAX – An unwanted intruder in the cockpit of an Air Canada flight from Halifax to Toronto kept the airplane grounded for four hours.
Flight 603 began boarding before sunrise, Wednesday. One of the passengers boarded the flight with a cat carrier.
Somehow the cat managed to escape and made its way through the cabin and into the cockpit.
The Airport Authority’s Peter Spurway told 680News the cat, apparently named “Ripples,” found a very cramped space to hide.
“The cat managed to wedge itself inside a panel, into the wiring of the avionics of the aircraft.”
Spurway said crews had to be brought in to retrieve the feline.
“Maintenance folks from Air Canada were brought in, then they started to disassemble that part of the cockpit in order to retrieve the cat.”
Crews had to be sure Ripples had not chewed through wires or unplugged something.
Spurway tracks airport stuff around the world and says this event is a new one to him.
“This is the first that I’ve heard of this.”
