Flash freeze may hamper Friday commute

Environment Canada is warning of a possible flash freeze in the GTA which could make for a challenging Friday afternoon commute.

The agency issued a special weather statement Thursday saying wet snow and a quick drop in temperature could cause icy roads.

“A sharp Arctic cold front will cross southern Ontario later on Friday,” the statement read.

“The combination of wet snow freezing on untreated roads and a couple centimetres of fresh snow may potentially create flash freeze conditions … This may be particularly hazardous for the greater Toronto area as it appears it may impact rush hour traffic.”

The agency said it will likely snow for a few hours.

Temperatures will reach 1 C on Friday.
