“Where are we at with the streak?” Detroit Red Wings winger Drew Miller asked the press after Sunday’s 3-2 win at Joe Louis Arena. “The streak is cool, but we’re more concerned with how we’re playing and to keep our spot in the race.”
Well, Mr. Miller, the cool streak is now at 23 games, and your team has now snapped the multiple-season record for home success. As for how the Wings are playing and their spot in the race, that’s pretty cool too.
NHL-leading Detroit has won a league-high six straight, moved to second (behind Boston) in goal differential (+51), and has a sparkling 26-2-1 home record.
Defeating Western powers San Jose and Nashville last week helped the league-leading Wings further distance themselves from the pack. And even though the record may have been assisted with help from a few shootout wins, the Wings have three more regulation victories (41) than any other franchise this season (the Rangers and Canucks have 38). .
