UFC CENTRAL: Recapping UFC 144 in Japan

Coming up on UFC Central hosted by “Showdown” Joe Ferraro, we kick off the week with our first new episode coming on Tuesday evening.

Showdown Joe takes an in-depth look at the Ultimate Fighting Championships first trip back to Japan in over 11 years for UFC 144, where Ben Henderson won a unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar to become the new UFC lightweight Champion.

But did Henderson deserve the win? Does the close call mean an automatic rematch with Edgar? Or was Anthony Pettis’ win over Joe Lauzon enough to earn the former WEC champ the title shot? We examine what the future holds for everyone involved.

In the co-main event Quinton “Rampage” Jackson dropped a decision to Ryan Bader. Following his missed weight and the loss, could this have been Rampage’s last fight in the octagon? We have that answer plus the rest of the highlights from an action packed event in Saitama.

The fighters on the card weren’t the only ones in Japan, as Roy Nelson, Georges St-Pierre and Showdown Joe take us on a tour of Tokyo and Saitama for some must see moments you won’t want to miss. Find out why GSP was forced to tap out at a local school and what Japanese delicacies actually made “Big Country” consider not eating.

The UFC takes no time off as they head to Sydney, Australia for UFC Live: Alves vs. Kampmann that goes down this Friday on Sportsnet. We preview the main event by sitting down former top contender Thiago “Pitbull” Alves as he looks to work himself back into title contention against another welterweight with something to prove Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann.

Don’t forget that you can catch the full event on Sportsnet One this Friday starting with the live preliminary fights at 6pm ET / 3 pm PT followed by the main card at 9pm ET / 6pm PT.
