Fire guts vacant Scarborough house

A two-alarm fire gutted an unoccupied home in Scarborough early Sunday morning.
When crews arrived at the house near Markham and Ellesmere roads around 5:30 a.m., flames were coming through the roof.
Platoon chief Reid Page said it started in the basement and spread throughout the house. Crews evacuated neighbouring homes as a precaution.
No one was hurt.
A nearby resident said the house was a rental property and had been vacant for the past two months.
Page said he didn’t yet know the cause of the fire.
