Conservatives drop appeal over in-and-out affair

OTTAWA – The Conservatives have given up their appeal over the in-and-out affair.
In the 2006 election the party moved money in and out of local ridings in a bid to exceed national spending limits.
The Conservatives say they agree to disagree with Elections Canada over what the party is still calling an administrative dispute.
The courts ruled against the Tories, ordering them to pay back Elections Canada more than $230,000.
In a statement released Monday, Conservative spokesperson Fred Delorey maintained that officials acted under the law as it was understood at the time.
Delorey added that the party changed their financing tactics for the campaigns in 2008 and 2011.
The party had originally won a lower court ruling, but the Federal Court of Appeal overturned it early last year.
Conservatives also pled guilty in November over false or misleading expense documents from the in and out affair. They were fined $52,000.
