Green to have hearing for hit on Connolly

Mike Green will have a discipline hearing Friday afternoon after the Washington Capitals defenceman hit Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brett Connolly in the head during Thursday night’s contest.

According to Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos, Green will meet with NHL senior vice president of player safety Brendan Shanahan at 1 p.m. ET on Friday.

During the second period, Connolly was skating behind the Capitals’ net when Green skated towards the 19-year-old Lightning rookie and appeared to hit Connolly in the head. No penalty was called on the play.

Connolly was helped off the ice but returned later in the game where the Capitals downed the Lightning 3-2 in overtime.

Washington currently sits in a tie for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference standings.
