Howard in Brier final after win over Fowler

SASKATOON — Ontario’s Glenn Howard advanced to the final of the Canadian men’s curling championship with a 9-3 win over Manitoba’s Rob Fowler on Friday.

Howard will play in the championship game Sunday for the sixth time in the last seven years as a skip. He also appeared in five finals as third for brother Russ.

Howard and front end Brent Laing and Craig Saville are 1-4 in Brier finals since 2006, winning one in 2007. Third Wayne Middaugh joined the team prior to this season.

Fowler shook hands after eight ends Friday. Manitoba must win Saturday’s semifinal to gain a rematch with Ontario.

Manitoba will meet the winner of Saturday’s earlier playoff game between Alberta’s Kevin Koe and his younger brother Jamie of Yukon and Northwest Territories.
