Mariam Makhniashvili: A timeline

The human remains found in a ravine on the Don Valley Golf Course last month belonged to missing teenager Mariam Makhniashvili, Toronto police confirmed on Friday.

The 17-year-old girl vanished more than two years ago, but police say her remains were found at Don Valley Golf Course last week and that an autopsy revealed the cause of death was consistent with a fall from a significant height. There was no evidence to suggest her death was suspicious or a homicide.

Summer 2009: Parents Vakhtang Makhniashvili and Lela Tabidze move from Los Angeles to Toronto.

June 2009: Mariam Makhniashvili and her brother George move from Tbilisi, Georgia, to Toronto to reunite with their parents.

Sept. 14, 2009: Mariam, 17, is last seen outside her school, Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. She had walked to school with her brother George.

Oct. 9, 2009: A passerby discovers Mariam’s backpack in an alleyway near Mount Pleasant Road and Eglinton Avenue East but it doesn’t provide any key information on her whereabouts.

Oct. 27, 2009: The RCMP receives a report Mariam was seen outside Calgary.

Dec. 2, 2009: The RCMP receives a report she was spotted in Grand Prairie, Alta. The RCMP says investigators have found no evidence to suggest Mariam had ever been in the province.

May 7, 2010: Mariam’s father Vakhtang Makhniashvili stabs his neighbour Sean Ure during a noise dispute.

Sept. 10, 2010: The Missing Children Society of Canada offers a $10,000 reward for information in Mariam’s disappearance.  

Nov. 4, 2010
: Vakhtang Makhniashvili stabs David Langer and his wife Delores, private investigators who had taken an interest in his daughter’s disappearance. The couple had also posted bail for Makhniashvili after the Ure incident.

Dec. 8, 2011: Vakhtang Makhniashvili is sentenced to six years in jail after pleading guilty to three counts of aggravated assault. Makhniashvili will serve four years and 11 months with a credit for pretrial custody.

Feb. 28, 2012: Human remains are discovered in a ravine at the Don Valley Golf Course, near Highway 401 and Yonge Street.

March 9, 2012: Police confirm to 680News that human remains are those of Mariam Makhniashvili.
