2 bodies found in trunk in Durham Region

Durham Regional Police are investigating the discovery of two bodies in the trunk of a car parked in a farmer’s field near Ridge Road just north of Sunderland.

Police were called to the scene around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon when a resident spotted the vehicle and notified officials.

There’s no word on the identity of the victims, or the cause of death.

“At this point the cause of death has not been determined and the sex and age of the victims is not being released,” said Staff Sgt. Tim Maw.

“From my understanding there has been no obvious signs of trauma.”

Police say due to the unusual circumstances, the homicide unit is investigating.

The gruesome discovery has rattled neighbours in the quiet area.

“It is a bit scary, for sure. It’s a bit of a strange occurrence. We know this is a main area where people travel from bigger cities up to the countryside,” said area resident Tracey Martin.
