Truck hauling chickens crashes on Hwy. 410 in Brampton

A tractor-trailer hauling crated chickens crashed on Highway 410 in Brampton early Monday.

The accident happened around 4 a.m. on the 410 north of Steeles, prompting police to close two northbound lanes of the highway. The lanes have since reopened.

The driver wasn’t seriously hurt in the crash, but many of the animals on the rig didn’t survive.

“We’ve been told, through witnesses that have come forward that we had pedestrians crossing the highway. The [truck] driver swerved to avoid the pedestrians and lost control and the vehicle went over on its side,” OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said.

The company that owns the rig was apparently assisting with the cleanup.

There’s no word on charges.
