Inside 680News: Catherine Jetté

1. What’s the memorable news story you’ve covered?
Unlike reporters who immerse themselves in one or two stories a day, anchors get to briefly cover dozens of stories on any given shift. Some of the most captivating in my time at 680 have been about natural disasters including the Haiti and Japan earthquakes.

2. What are your hobbies?
It can be hard to find time for hobbies when you’re a working mom, but when I do have free time I love to catch up on great movies and music. I also crochet and take a university writing course online.

3. What’s your favourite place (country, city) visited and why?
I have visited nearly every Canadian province and lived in three of them so it’s difficult to pick a favourite, however I stayed in PEI for the first time last summer and was absolutely amazed by its beauty. Lately though I’ve been itching to go back to London, England.

4. What would your last meal on earth be?
I’d start with my husband’s famous arugula salad. Then, my mother’s tourtiere paired with my mother-in-law’s scalloped potatoes. And to top if all off, a slice of my own maple syrup bundt cake with a healthy dollop of fresh whipped cream… washed down with a nice glass of port.

5. Favourite book you’ve read in last 12 months?
I finally got around to reading A Tale of Two Cities and it has become my favourite Dickens novel.

6. If you’re stuck on island, what are the three things you want with you?
A portable DVD player, the complete collection of “Mad Men,” and the real Jon Hamm. But I’ll settle for my husband, son and a book of matches.

7. If you’d have another career, what would it be?
This isn’t something I’ve ever considered … but maybe something in the non-profit sector.

8. What else do you want to accomplish at 680News?
For now I’m totally focused on becoming better at what I do — choosing compelling stories, writing them well and conveying them effectively.

9. Do you drink/like coffee or tea?
Both! Coffee at work and lovely loose-leaf teas to relax with at home.
