3-alarm fire at Scarborough packaging plant

Crews battled a stubborn 3-alarm fire at Atlantic Packaging Products in Scarborough on Monday.

Over 100 firefighters were called to 111 Progress Avenue to douse the blaze, Cpt. Mike Strapko told CityNews.

The fire started around 4 p.m.and was fed by huge bales of cardboard inside the building.

“The fire appears to have started possibly on the outside of a stack of bales. As you can appreciate, the bales go at least 15 to 25 feet high. The fire has gone inside the building, which is basically a big open warehouse,” said Lorne Buckingham, Division Commander, Toronto Fire.

At one point, the structural safety of the building was deemed precarious and firefighters took a defensive stance.

No injuries have been reported.
