Suspect in Oriole Park murder named

Police have identified a suspect in the shooting death of 32-year-old James Massey in Oriole Park early Wednesday.

David Ludwig, 33, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder, though police believe he is still in Toronto.

“I have all of the policing resources available to me to apprehend and locate Mr. Ludwig and I will use them … in a very, very aggressive way,” Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux said Friday.

“So if he’s listening to this broadcast, I encourage him to walk into any area police station and surrender himself.”

Massey was killed by a close-range shotgun “blast” to the stomach, Giroux said, and his body was found in a playground near Yonge Street and Chaplin Crescent around 3 a.m Wednesday.

Giroux did not reveal how the two knew each other, but said they had “issues” that led to the confrontation.

Ludwig appears to be in his late 20s or early 30s and is five-foot-eight to five-foot-10 with a medium build. When he was last seen, he was unshaven, wearing black hooded sweatshirt and baggy jeans, and was headed southbound on Chaplin to Lascelles Boulevard.

Police say he should not be approached as he may be armed.
