Man survives going over Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A man is alive after going over the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

The man, believed to be in his 40’s, appeared to deliberately plunge over Horseshoe Falls around 10:30 a.m. Monday, in front of thousands of shocked Victoria Day tourists.

He survived the more than 50-metre plunge.

Niagara Parks Commission Sgt. Chris Gallagher told 680News that rescue crews were quick to respond to the incident.

“With the assistance of the Niagara Falls Fire Department, Niagara EMS, we were able to respond to the lower gorge and extricate the male back up to street level,” said Sgt. Gallagher.

Crews rappelled down the falls to help bring the man to safety.

He was airlifted to a Hamilton hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The surrounding area is closed for the incident.
