Athlete spotlights on Hughes, Sinclair, Bolt to compliment Games coverage

TORONTO – Canada’s Olympic broadcasters say a series of athlete spotlights will be peppered throughout its Summer Olympics coverage much as viewers saw during the last Winter Games in Vancouver.

Soccer captain Christine Sinclair, cyclist Clara Hughes and Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt will be among those featured during coverage of the London Olympics.

Others segments include stories about the mothers of Olympic athletes, sports stars trying their hand at different events, and the inner workings of an Olympian’s body. They range from less than a minute to about four minutes in length.

Sinclair pops up in “Difference Makers,” in which Olympians reveal an important person who shaped their life, while Hughes appears in “Upclose,” which looks at athletes’ struggles to pursue gold.

The Games will be carried by a coalition of networks known as Canada’s Olympic broadcast media consortium.

Features will air during the Games on channels including CTV, RDS, Sportsnet, TSN and V, and online at CTVOlympics.ca and RDSolympiques.ca.
