Police issue warning after east-end sex attack

Police are warning the public about a sexual predator after a woman was attacked near the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus on Wednesday morning.

The victim was walking near Ellesmere Road and Military Trail around 3 a.m. when a man approached from behind. He held a knife to her throat, threatened her, dragged her into a wooded area and sexually assaulted her.

The man also stole the woman’s iPod.

“The victim has been speaking with police and is recovering,” Const. Wendy Drummond said.

The suspect is described as having a dark-black complexion, about six feet tall, about 200 pounds and in his 20s. Police say he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Drummond said there have been no reports of similar attacks in the area recently.

“Be aware, be vigilant of your surroundings but also listen to yourself. If you feel that something’s not right, something’s making you feel uncomfortable, get yourself to a place of safety,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call (416) 808-7474 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
