A Mexican migrant worker who was struck by lightning on Wednesday has died, Ontario Provincial Police tell CityNews.
Ezequil Cervantes-Nava, 48, was struck near Port Dover, south of Brantford.
He was taken to Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital and later to University Hospital in London, where he was pronounced dead.
Const. Ed Sanchuk said Wednesday that there were eight other men in the ginseng field with Cervantes-Nava. None of them were injured.
Cervantes-Nava was walking back to a truck when he was hit.
The best place to be during a lightning storm is inside, Sanchuk said.
If you are caught out in the open, take shelter in low-lying areas like valley or ditches – lightning generally strikes higher ground.
