Durham regional police are investigating after a body was found in a car north of Pickering.
The body was discovered on the grounds of the Whitevale Cemetery, on Whitevale Road south of Highway 407 and east of Altona Road, Thursday.
Sgt. Nancy van Rooy told 680News a passerby called police this morning.
“We received information about a vehicle that, perhaps, seemed suspicious being there for a period of time. We’ve continued with the investigation which, at this point in time, has been deemed a sudden death investigation,” she said.
Sgt. van Rooy added that a number of other units have been called in to assist in the investigation.
“As a protocol we have notified our homicide unit, we also have our forensic identification unit arriving to scene and a number of officers that are canvassing the area, including members of our public order unit.”
There has been no word on whether the body is that of a man or a woman.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
