Memorial service for Ontario’s fallen firefighters held at Queen’s Park

A memorial service was held at Queen’s Park at 1 p.m. to remember Ontario’s fallen firefighters.
Firefighters marched into the ceremony led by a pipe-and-drums band while flags were flown at half-mast.
The annual memorial honours firefighters for their bravery, heroism and sacrifice.
The ceremony took place at the Ontario Fire Fighters Memorial, which is located at Queen’s Park on the north-east corner of College Street and University Avenue.
Twenty-four names were added last year for a total of 556, while another 18 have been added this year, including two from the GTA.
Murray Manson Sr., a District Chief in Toronto and Walter Cunliffe, an Etobicoke firefighter had their names added.
The ceremony was attended by firefighters from across the province, along with dignitaries like Premier Dalton McGuinty and Lieutenant-Governor David Onley.

The service was expected to run until 2:30 p.m.
