Shots fired at Erin Mills Town Centre

Police are searching for two suspects after shots were fired during a jewelry store robbery inside Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga, Peel Const. George Tudos confirms.

It happened around 8:20 p.m. at Peoples Jewellers, and police say an unspecified amount of jewelry was taken in the heist.

Tudos said the mall was busy at the time and the “outcome could have been a lot worse.”

“Shots were fired and luckily no one was hurt during this robbery,” he said.

It hasn’t yet been determined if the shots were fired inside Peoples, or somewhere else in the mall.

The suspects are described as male blacks. They were last seen fleeing on foot.

Rodney, who only wanted his first name used, said he was at the mall when he heard a shot ring out.

He then saw two suspects making their getaway – one brandishing a large gun.

“I was on my way down to the Bay and I heard a shot and then I saw two guys running,”

Both men were wearing masks, he said, and one was decked out in construction attire.

The suspects exited through a side door near the Bay.

“The guy did wave a gun at someone in the Bay…It was a pretty big gun.”

Shoppers began to panic and rush for cover, he added.

“There was somewhat of a chaotic scene (with) everyone running away and scurrying and jumping into stores,” he told CityNews.ca.
