Halloween may still be a few days away but there was a frightful sight in the downtown core Saturday afternoon.
Thousands of people dressed as zombies wandered through the downtown streets for the 10th Annual Toronto Zombie Walk.
Ghoulish walkers started the five kilometer stroll from Nathan Phillips Square, where they later gathered for a fright-filled afternoon of live performances.
For the first time in the history of the Toronto Zombie Walk, they partnered with the Heart and Stroke Foundation to help raise awareness of heart disease and stroke.
Mark Holland with the Heart and Stroke Foundation told CityNews why they decided to partner up with this event.
“When you think zombies you don’t think heart and stroke but it’s because we have our whole CPR makes you undead campaign,” he explained.
Holland said the foundation will also be attempting to break the Guinness world record for most people CPR trained at one time on Thursday during the Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland.
Organizers estimated that about 10,000 people took part in the Toronto Zombie Walk events on Saturday, making it the largest in the event’s history.
