GTA hydro workers head to NYC to aid in cleanup

About 200 hydro workers from around the GTA left for New York City on Sunday to help with the cleanup after Hurricane Sandy.

They’ll join the 200 Hydro One workers who left Friday and are already in the city.

“It’s important to help out your neighbours,” said Burlington Hydro’s Brad Cumming.

“It’s important that if this happened here in Burlington that we would get help from outside sources in the event that we had a disaster like they do right now.”

In a news conference on Sunday, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said 730,000 residents in the state are still without power.

The Canadians expect to be in the U.S. until next Saturday, but say they’re prepared to stay longer if needed.
