Lady Gaga pledges $1M to Superstorm Sandy relief

Lady Gaga pledged $1 million to New York City and the American Red Cross after Superstorm Sandy hit the U.S. east coast on Oct. 29.

In a post on her website, littlemonsters.com, Lady Gaga wrote that she would not be the artist or woman she is today without New York City.

“If it wasn’t for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion,” she wrote.

The storm has killed 121 people in the United States and Canada and left millions without power.

The region, already grappling with the damages from Sandy, was slammed with a nor’easter on Wednesday. That storm brought more flooding, downed trees, property damage and power outages to the east coast.

Lady Gaga made the donation on behalf of her family.

“Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours,” she wrote.
