The premiere for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was held in Los Angeles on Monday night and actors Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner walked the black carpet for the last installment of the blockbuster franchise.
The stars were greeted by thousands of fans, some of whom had camped out for days for a first glimpse of the movie.
The film is based on the fourth and final book in author Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series, Breaking Dawn. Like the last installment of the Harry Potter franchise, it was split into two movies to draw audiences into theatres.
Breaking Dawn – Part 2 follows Stewart’s character Bella Swan as she transforms into a vampire and gives birth to a child with Pattinson’s vampire character Edward Cullen.
Their daughter Rensemee is the target of another vampire clan, the Volturi, who wrongly believe that Rensemee was bitten as an infant and transformed into a vampire.
The Cullen clan joins with other vampires as well as Lautner’s wolf pack to take a stand against the Volturi.
The three stars were joined by fellow cast mates including Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning, as well as Meyer for the Monday night premiere.
Meyer said she would miss watching the three lead cast members grow as actors and characters in the films.
“It’s really been great to watch them grow up, particularly Kristen because her character gets to evolve so much in this film, and to watch her be all powerful and really get to where the character was always meant to go, to be the fiercest of the fierce, was really rewarding for me,” the author told Reuters.
The final film in the Twilight series opens on Nov. 16.
