Anne Hathaway responds to flasher photos

Anne Hathaway responded with humour and grace after a series of revealing photos of her flooded the Internet on Tuesday.

The Les Miserables star was stepping out of a limousine late Monday night when the slit on her skirt opened fully, exposing the actress from the waist down. She was not wearing underwear.

“I think what I am going to do is whatever my next appearance is… I’m going to step out of the car in a blanket. You’ve got to laugh at it,” Hathaway told New York Post’s Page Six gossip column.

Later, during an interview on the Today show, leering host Matt Lauer said he had “seen a lot of her lately.”

“Well, it was obviously an unfortunate incident … It kind of made me sad on two accounts,” Hathaway responded Wednesday.

“One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and, rather than delete it and do the decent thing, sells it.

“And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies the sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to Les Mis because that’s what the character [Fantine] is. She is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there’s no social safety net. So yeah—let’s get back to Les Mis.
