A study on tech trends said despite the popularity of tablets and smartphones, people still spend the majority of their time using personal computers when they are at work or at home.
The Deloitte Canada report found factors such as larger screens, and the number of hours spent watching movies, playing games or on Facebook account for more time on PCs.
In addition, people are more likely to use PCs to surf the web, despite the convenience of tablets and cell phones.
The research found that work accounts for a large portion of the more than 70 per cent of hours users are expected to spend on PCs, smartphones and tablets in 2013, but most will be spent on the PC.
Moreover, people are likely to use their PCs more than 50 per cent of the time outside of work.
However, at Yonge and Bloor, these people told 680News, it’s mainly convenience which has them using wireless options more often than a desktop or laptop equivalent.
“Right now I’m more on my smartphone, my iPod, instead of using my computer,” said one man.
“I believe more is coming from smartphones and tablets,” said another.
One woman told 680News the technological change prompted her to kiss her personal computer goodbye.
“I have an iPad. I don’t have a home computer, so I use my iPad with wireless Internet – that and my cell phone. I had a computer and I actually threw it away a year ago.”
But some felt the research was accurate, citing that everyone is connected at work through laptops and desktops, or that it’s more adaptable to different software platforms.
