Five suspects have been arrested after a home invasion and abduction in Vaughan late Wednesday morning.

It happened on Solway Avenue, in the Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive area, around 11 a.m., when police say the suspects forced the victim into a four-door sedan and took off.

Officers saw the car taking off as they pulled up to the scene and gave chase. The pursuit ended in the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area and four suspects were arrested in a high-risk takedown.  A fifth suspect fled on foot and was at large for several hours, but York police tweeted around 4 p.m. that he has since been arrested.

The victim was found safe.

There was a heavy police presence in the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area, where several SWAT officers were searching the nearby Sheridan Mall for the fourth suspect.

Two elementary schools in the area — Chalkfarm and St. Gerard Majella — were placed in hold-and-secure mode as a precaution. The safety precautions have since been lifted at both schools.
