TORONTO, Ont. – Nobody was injured but nerves have been rattled after a Toronto teacher was caught driving 146 km/h on Highway 401 with students in the bus.
Police say the teacher was transporting up to a dozen students near Windsor for the provincial basketball championships.
“At the bare minimum it’s reckless behaviour on the part of the teacher that ought to lead to discipline,” said Brian Patterson, President of the Ontario Safety League.
According to the Toronto Star Father Henry Carr basketball coach Paul Melnik was allegedly driving without the required F license at the time, and received tickets for speeding and driving without the proper license.
“You just can’t allow an incident like this not to be a learning experience for some, you’ve got to be very much aware particularly when young people are in vehicles,” Patterson said.
The TCDSB is investigating the incident and says the teacher has been told not to drive students to any more games.
