Passengers delayed after protest at Billy Bishop Airport

Passengers were delayed for almost two hours at Toronto Island’s Billy Bishop Airport after striking Porter airline workers stopped ferry traffic Sunday evening.
Around 8 p.m. protesters took over the ferry, stopping it from transporting passengers back and forth from the mainland to the airport.
Toronto police were called to the scene to intervene.
“Shortly after (police) stepped in they were able to get passengers on and off and we’ve been able to board,” The Score’s Donnovan Bennett, who was one of the passengers delayed by the protest, told CityNews.
Bennett said there had been no word from the airline on possible compensation for travellers who may have missed connecting flights due to the protest.
Twenty-two members of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union (COPE), who refuel the planes for Porter Airlines, went on strike in January.
