Jam-band Phish returning to Toronto in July

Jam-band Phish is returning to Toronto for the first time in 13 years.

The band announced on its website Tuesday that they will play the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on July 9, as part of their annual summer tour.

Phish last played Toronto in 2000 in front of a sold-out crowd.

The Vermont based four-piece have been equated to The Grateful Dead due to their long in-song jams and loyal fan base which travels alongside the band from show to show.

Rolling Stone magazine recently added Phish to its list of “new immortals” – artists it thinks will “stand the test of time – the kind of acts whose names we wouldn’t be surprised to see on a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot at some point down the road when they become eligible.”

The 2013 tour starts on July 3 in Bangor, Maine, and will finish in Colorado on Sept. 1.

Tickets for the Toronto show will go on sale March 28.
