Weekend subway closure: Union to St. George

The TTC subway will be closed this weekend between Union and St. George stations due to signal work.

The transit commission says it is modernizing signalling equipment that was installed when the route opened 50 years ago.

Starting Friday night at midnight, trains will turn back at St. George and Union stations.

Buses will operate every three to five minutes, stopping at each station on the University line and King Station on the Yonge line.

However, the buses will not service Union Station because of construction on Front Street.

The TTC said customers heading to Union should use the Yonge Line.

The elevators at St. George Station are also under construction. The TTC said it would have Wheel-Trans buses stationed at Bathurst, Eglinton West and Union subway stations.

The subway stations between Union and St. George reopen 6 a.m. on Monday.
