Cops for Cancer raises $85,000 after head-shaving event at Yorkdale

TORONTO, Ont. – Cops for Cancer managed to raise $85,000 for cancer research, after a number of police officers, members of the public and media lost their locks for a good cause Saturday.

The 17th annual Cops for Cancer head shaving event took place Saturday afternoon at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

Citytv’s Frank Ferragine hosted the event, and joined Chief Bill Blair in getting his head shaved.

Ferragine had said if $60,000 was raised he would shave his head, and police managed to raise a total of $85,000.

Deputy Chief Mike Federico was also joined by some of the kids of Cops for Cancer in shaving his head.

The event included a mock jail where people were charged with “Fighting Cancer” and not released on bail until they raised enough money for cancer research.

Kiss 92.5’s Maurie Sherman was on hand presiding over the mock jail and helping to raise money.

For people attending the event there were photo opportunities with the Toronto Police Dog Service and Emergency Task Force robot and motorcycles.
