SIU investigating after man shot in east-end raid

The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was shot during a raid in Toronto’s east end on Thursday.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said police were executing a search warrant at a home on Wainfleet Road, near Midland and Eglinton avenues, around 2 a.m.

During the search, a gun went off and a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg.

The man was taken to hospital, where he remains. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

It’s not yet known why police were searching the home.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency which investigates cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
