Missing Hamilton man’s cellphone found in Brantford

Hamilton police say they’ve found the cellphone of Timothy Bosma, who went missing while trying to sell his pickup truck.

At a news conference on Friday, police said his truck had also been seen in Brantford, where the phone turned up, and are asking businesses in the city to check their surveillance video for anything suspicious on Monday between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Despite massive ground searches Thursday and Friday, police found no further clues.  The search will continue on Saturday.

Bosma’s wife Sharlene said two men — who told Bosma they were from the Toronto area — came to the family’s house on Monday to test out the 2007 Dodge Ram advertised for sale on Kijiji and Auto Trader.

Bosma, 32, went for a test drive with them and never came back.

Police said after analyzing one of the men’s cellphone records, they learned the pair may have test driven a similar truck in Etobicoke on Sunday. The owner of that truck was not hurt.

A vigil for Bosma took place at 7 p.m. Friday at the Ancaster Christian Reformed Church on Garner Road.

One suspect is described as white, six-foot-one to six-foot-two, 170-180 pounds, in his mid-20s, with short, light- to medium-brown hair. He was unshaven, wore blue jeans, an orange shirt and running shoes and had a tattoo on his wrist which said “Ambition,” framed by a box.

The other is white, five-foot-nine to five-foot-10, 170-180 pounds, in his mid-20s, with dark hair. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

Bosma’s Dodge Ram is black with the Ontario licence plate 726 7ZW.

Due to the overwhelming response to the case, police have set up a dedicated tip line at 905-546-2100. People with information can also call Crime Stoppers at 905-222-TIPS (8477).
