“David is a terrific addition to the WWF team who will help us achieve our ambitious conservation objectives.” WWF-Canada chairman Roger Dickhout said in a statement. “He is a leader who can bring together diverse stakeholders around a common vision for solutions to complex issues.”
The organization says Miller was chosen due to his passion, sustained commitment and leadership in conservation.
“I’m proud to join that mission and this organization, with its long and distinguished history of effective action on the issues that matter most both to Canada and the world,” said Miller in a guest blog on the WWF-Canada website.
He added that he is looking forward to leading Canadians, through the WWF, in meeting environmental challenges.
Millar was elected as Toronto’s 63rd mayor in 2003 and was re-elected in 2006. He also worked as counsel for international business and sustainability at Aird & Berlis LLP.
WWF-Canada is the country’s largest international conservation organization.
