Police investigating threat made against member of Ford family: Mayor Ford

Police are investigating a threat made against a member of the Ford family, Mayor Rob Ford confirmed on Wednesday.

CityNews has learned that the threat targeted one of Coun. Doug Ford’s daughters and came in an email.

Ford was asked about it while updating the public on the impending closure of the Dufferin Street bridge for repairs.

“That’s in the police hands right now,” he said. “I obviously can’t comment on that. Yeah, a threat came in, but the police are handling it and that’s all I can say right now.”

Police chief Bill Blair has confirmed with CityNews that his officers are investigating, saying the email was “threatening and concerning.”

Mayor Ford attended several public events on Wednesday, including a trip to a Scarborough Tim Hortons to support Camp Day.

On Tuesday night, the U.S. gossip website Gawker said the alleged video of Ford appearing to smoke crack cocaine was “gone.”  Ford refused to answer questions about the latest twist in the ongoing saga, but said he’s intent of performing his mayoral duties, even while in the eye of a media storm.

“It’s stressful,” he admitted. “But I have a very supportive family and I’ll just move forward and do my job. I was elected to reduce the size and cost of government, keep taxes low, and that’s exactly what I’ve done.

Mayor Ford has denied using crack cocaine, and CityNews has not verified allegations made by Gawker.
