Meningitis warning ahead of New York City’s gay pride weekend

Anyone travelling to New York City for Gay Pride events next weekend are being advised to get a meningitis vaccine.

Both doctors at Cornell and New York’s health officials are raising the alarm due to an outbreak affecting gay men.

A total of 22 cases of meningitis have been reported among gay men, or men who have had intimate encounters with other men since August 2010.

The outbreak has led to seven deaths, a rate which the C.D.C. says is significantly higher than that found in the general population.
