Conservatives sowing divisions among First Nations communities: Trudeau

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is accusing the governing Conservatives of sowing divisions among First Nations communities.

Trudeau says Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government is deliberately dragging its feet on a number of aboriginal issues.

He says the government is doing it in order to create frustration at the slow pace and ultimately divide people.

Trudeau is in Whitehorse for the annual gathering of the Assembly of First Nations.

Trudeau’s comments come as an aboriginal leader tells a rival meeting in Onion Lake, Sask., that the AFN isn’t getting the job done when it comes to improving treaties with the federal government.

Grand Chief Derek Neepinak of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs says First Nations need to take a stand against the federal government and against companies trampling over their traditional lands.
