‘The Wizard of Oz’ ends Toronto run Sunday

Dorothy will click her heels for the last time in Toronto this Sunday as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Wizard of Oz ends its local run.

The all-Canadian production, which dazzled audiences at the Ed Mirvish Theatre for eight months, will now go on tour across North America.

The production, which is based on the Oscar-winning MGM film, includes some new songs by Tim Rice and Webber.

“The interesting thing about Oz was that it’s been done many times in the theatre but it hasn’t really been done in quite the way that we do it,” Webber told KiSS 92.5 in April.

“When I was asked to take it on I looked at it and I thought there’s a problem which we have to solve in that there are no songs for either of the witches.”

The musical also includes some new songs for Dorothy.

During its time in Toronto The Wizard of Oz was performed over 300 times.
