St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market reopens after fire

St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market, which was partly levelled by a fire on the long weekend, has reopened.

The owners of the year-round market, near Waterloo, Ont., said the outdoor portion of the market plus one of the buildings is open on Thursday and Saturday.

“So many of you have asked how to help,” the owners posted on the market’s website. “One great way to help is come out and support the many vendors who will be there THIS WEEK.”

Premier Kathleen Wynne was on hand for the opening.

A fire gutted the market’s two-storey post-and-beam structure that housed more than 60 businesses early Labour Day morning.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has concluded its on-site investigation. Investigators haven’t determined a cause of the fire but a spokesman said they’re looking at several “potential ignition sources.”
